"On average, we spend 90,000 hours of our lives at work. Companies and employers have a responsibility to ensure that these hours are spent in environments that support the mental health of employees and their families. This is not only better for people's wellbeing, but also better for businesses themselves."

Arthur C. Evans Jr., PhD

APA’s chief executive officer

The obligation to examine workplaces with regard to possible hazards and, if necessary, to take remedial action was laid down in the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1996 and clarified in 2013 to the effect that hazards can also arise from psychosocial working conditions, which must therefore be assessed.

According to a recent study, only 21% of 6500 companies surveyed in Germany comply with this legal obligation by carrying out a complete risk assessment of psychological stress (GBP).
